Overview

The Minor in Latino Media serves students with majors in Klein College, in the College of Liberal Arts, as well as in other majors across campus who would benefit from a deeper understanding of the role of media and communication in Latino communities. The coursework explores the political, economic, cultural, sociological, global, and ethical issues that underlie media and communication in, as well as the production of media that reaches, Latino communities and Latino societies. This minor offers students the necessary skills and understanding to pursue careers in areas such as media studies and production, intercultural communication, journalism, public relations, advertising, and strategic communication within Latino communities and Latino societies.

Within this minor, students complete 18-19 credits that include one foundational course (3 credit hours), one Latino media and communication course (3 credit hours), at least two courses from an array focused on production and community engagement (6-7 credit hours), and at least two courses from an array of courses from the College of Liberal Arts that focus on Latino and Latin American culture, history, and language that prepare students with a richer understanding to better serve Latino communities (6 credit hours).
