Overview
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) is offered by the Department of Nursing.
Designed for those who have already obtained a non-nursing bachelor's degree, this accelerated BSN degree accounts for 58 credits of GenEd and prerequisite transfer courses from the first bachelor's degree and includes 63 credits in undergraduate nursing courses (total undergraduate credits of 121). The ABSN nursing courses provide extensive knowledge, skills and experience required to become a registered nurse over the course of 16 months.
The degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) may be conferred upon a student by recommendation of the faculty and upon the satisfactory completion of a minimum of 63 nursing credit hours plus 58 transfer credit hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 overall and in the major. The minimum passing grade in all required nursing major courses is 73% (C); this includes all courses listed under Department of Nursing requirements.

Admissions
Admission to the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is competitive. Applicants must have already earned an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing major. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required for admission.
Students must have completed the following prerequisite courses needed for admission:
- Chemistry with lab (4 credits)
- Anatomy and Physiology with lab (8 credits)
- General Biology with lab (4 credits)
- Microbiology with lab (4 credits)
- Psychology (3 credits)
- Developmental Psychology or equivalent (3 credits)
- English Composition (3 credits)
Courses will be evaluated for equivalency and transfer on an individual case-by-case basis. Cumulative course credits will be considered at the discretion of the admissions team.
Applicants must demonstrate evidence of successful completion of prerequisite course requirements with a "C" or better in the science courses. All prerequisite courses must be successfully completed prior to starting the program. Five of the eight prerequisite courses must be completed at the time of application; the remaining three courses may be planned or in progress but must be completed prior to starting the program.

Facilities and Clinical Sites
The Nursing Resource Center at Temple's Health Sciences Center campus is a simulation-based learning environment that utilizes state-of-the-art technology to aid in student skill development, critical reasoning and teamwork. Students participate in real-life situations in a safe and controlled simulated setting with guidance from our faculty. BSN students complete a total of 973 hours of clinical experience in lab, simulation, community- and hospital-based settings.
Clinical sites may include but are not limited to Temple Hospital Main, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Jeanes Hospital, Episcopal Hospital, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, Holy Redeemer Medical Center, and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Accreditation
The program is approved by the State Board of Nursing, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The baccalaureate degree program in nursing program at Temple University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Summary of Requirements
University Requirements
All students are required to complete the university's General Education (GenEd) curriculum and prerequisite courses. These requirements will be satisfied by transfer credits from a student's undergraduate degree, subject to review and approval by the Department of Nursing.
All students must take a minimum of two writing-intensive courses as part of the major. The writing-intensive courses required for this major are NURS 3296 and NURS 3496.
College Requirement
All College of Public Health undergraduates must successfully complete the College Core Course, HRPR 1001 Public Health: The Way We Live, Work and Play. This requirement will be satisfied by HRPR 5001 Current and Emerging Issues in Public Health and Health Professions, which provides a grounding in public health and interprofessional education.
Clearance Requirements
Students attending Temple University College of Public Health are required to submit to Temple University Student Health Services proof of immunizations and proof of immunity for MMR, Varicella and hepatitis B, proof of being fully vaccinated to COVID-19, TB screening, and a physical exam prior to matriculation. Annually, an influenza vaccine is required. Some affiliates may also require annual TB screening and urine drug screenings. Students who are in fully on-line programs with no in-person class or practicum experience can request a waiver for the above health requirements. All students who attend programs that have a clinical / practicum / field education experience will be required to purchase access to the EXXAT - APPROVE compliance module. This module to order, store and maintain compliance documents is required for participation in a learning experience at an affiliate site.
Students who attend CPH programs that have a clinical / practicum / field education experience which are completed at affiliate sites both on and off the Temple University campus are required to comply with minimum standard compliance metrics which include the above health requirements in addition to a national criminal background check, Act 33/34 clearances in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and FBI fingerprinting through DHS or DoE. FBI fingerprinting is a national check, which can be performed through any of the 50 states.
The results of these requirements may limit and potentially eliminate placement options for the student, thus resulting in their inability to meet graduation requirements. Additionally, conviction of a misdemeanor, felony, or felonious or illegal act may prevent the individual from becoming credentialed and/or licensed to practice depending on the field of study.
In addition to the above students who attend the BSN program are required to show proof of health insurance annually, and proof of current American Heart Association CPR certification for Healthcare Professionals.
Student Transportation
Transportation to and from clinical sites is the responsibility of the student. Shuttle service is available from Temple University-Main Campus to the Health Science Campus Monday through Friday.
