This course will enable students to develop a basic understanding of the fund of knowledge and types of medical problems seen in this specialty; to develop a basic understanding of the medical decision making process involved in the practice; and to develop an understanding of and practice of medical interpersonal communication and professionalism.

This elective will allow students to gain exposure to the specialty and the types of health conditions experienced by patients seen by providers in this specialty as healthcare team members.
RHMD M740. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. 0 Credit Hours.
This clinical elective provides students with the opportunity to be actively involved in the rehabilitation care of inpatients, consult services, electrodiagnostic services, other highly specialized programs, and the care of outpatients undergoing rehabilitation.

The elective is offered at the St. Luke campus and is a combined MSK division and PM&R division experience. The MSK division days will consist of primarily outpatient clinic and procedural exposure (specifically in ultrasound diagnostic/therapeutic days and spine procedures). The PM&R division days will consist of primarily inpatient exposure, but also include outpatient physical therapy days adult/pediatric, outpatient spasticity clinic, outpatient limb loss clinic, and general physiatry clinic time. This rotation is a unique experience to show all the different aspects of rehabilitation medicine. NOTE: Prior completion of
RHMD M740 is recommended, but not required.
